On Tuesday, an official statement of the US stated that the US has deported an Indian national, wanted in his home state on charges of attempting murder, theft, extortion and owning illegal firearms.
The 46-year-old Ubaidullah Abdulrashid Radiowala, also known as Obed Radiowala got accused of planning to kill Bollywood director Mahesh Bhatt and firing on film-maker Karim Morani in 2014.
A non-bailable warrant was issued against Obed Radiowala by a Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) court in 2015. At the same time, an Interpol Red Corner notice was also issued on the request of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
The US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) said in a press conference that “He was wanted in India on charges of attempted murder, criminal conspiracy, extortion, forgery, cheating, theft, abetment, use and possession of illegal firearms, and transmission of information by using the internet to form an organized crime syndicate.”
In the press release, it was also said that Obed Radiowala was illegally staying in the US and got arrested by the Newark’s Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) in September 2017 from Iselin, New Jersey. Later an immigration judge ordered to deport him to India.
On Monday he was handed over to Indian authorities. ERO Newark field office director John Tsoukaris said that “This individual’s long list of criminal charges in his home country, including attempted murder, show that he was a danger to the community here in the US.”
