On Friday, India and the United States to discuss ways to expand bilateral cooperation on foreign policy and defence issues and exchanged views on regional developments as stakeholders for an open, free, peaceful, and inclusive Indo-Pacific.

The inaugural round of the India-US 2+2 inter-session meeting was held with Indian delegation that led jointly by Joint Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs and Shambhu S Kumaran, Gourangalal Das, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Defence, while from the US side was headed jointly by Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State and Randall Schriver, Ambassador Alice Wells, and Assistant Secretary of Defense.

The inter-session meeting was set up to follow up on the decisions that were taken during India-US Ministerial 2+2 Dialogue, the first round of which was organized in September 2018 in New Delhi, and to make continued progress on bilateral cooperation on cross-cutting defence and foreign policy issues of interest from both the sides, said the MEA in a statement.

India and the United States has further exchanged views on regional developments as stakeholders and partners for a free, peaceful, open, prosperous, and inclusive Indo-Pacific, it added.
