Today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and conveyed his heartiest congratulation of her party’s determine victory in the Parliamentary Elections.
The External Affairs Ministry said that the Prime Minister of India has expressed confidence that partnership between Bangladesh and India will continue to flourish under PM Hasina’s “far-sighted” leadership.
Bangladesh’s newly-elected Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina further thanked PM Modi for bringing the first political leader to call her to convey his congratulations.
In a statement, the Ministry of External Affairs said that “the PM also reiterated the priority India attaches to Bangladesh as a neighbor, a close partner for regional development, security and cooperation, and a central pillar in India’s ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy.”
The ministry continued that the conversation was very cordial, which fully reflects the close and traditional friendly relations between both the neighboring nations.
It also said that India has warmly congratulated the people of Bangladesh for reaffirming their belief and faith in development, democracy and the vision of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The statement reads that “PM Sheikh Hasina thanked Prime Minister for being the first leader to call her to convey congratulations. She also thanked India for their consistent and generous support which has benefited Bangladesh’s development, and appreciated PM’s reiteration of this commitment.”
Her political party Awami League has emerged victorious in the polls, secured more than 267 seats out of the 300-members House, declared the country’s EC (Election Commission).
