Imran Khan taking oath as Pakistan’s Prime Minister

Today the former World Cup-Winner swears in as Prime Minister of Pakistan.

After securing 172 votes on Thursday, the PTI (Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf) Chief and former Pakistani’s cricketer, has sworn in as Pakistan’s newly elected Prime Minister in Islamabad at the oath-taking ceremony today. Last month, Mr. Khan has already won the general election of Pakistan. He has secured four more votes than required to win, 172 votes.

Navjot Singh Sidhu yesterday reached Lahore, out of the three Indian cricketers invited by the newly elected PM Mr. Khan to participate in his oath-taking ceremony. Punjab Congress-government Minister Mr. Sidhu went to attain the oath-taking ceremony of PM Khan “not as a politician but as a friend of him”, said Mr. Sidhu.

Mr. Khan was stumble and tearful over some of the words of oath-taking, which was administered by Pak President Mamnoon Hussian to him. Mr. Khan swore to “bear true faith and allegiance to Pakistan” and also “to discharge my duties and perform my functions honestly, to the best of my ability… and always in the interest of the sovereignty, integrity, solidarity, well-being, and prosperity of Pakistan.”

Omar Abdullah’s advisor Tanvir Sadiq also congratulated the newly elected PM of Pakistan on his oath-taking day. Mr. Sadiq tweeted, “Here is hoping that now onwards, the relationship between India and Pakistan ushers in a new dawn where peace and prosperity of two countries prevail over animosity and destruction.”

Mr. Khan’s high-profile guest list includes National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser, caretaker PM Nasirul Mulk, Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Naval Chief Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi, and Air Chief Marshal Mujahid Anwar Khan. Former cricketers like Wasim Akram and Rameez Raja were also invited on the occasion.

Imran Khan takes oath today as the 22nd Prime Minister of Pakistan. Mr. Khan’s wife, Bushra Maneka also attended the oath-taking ceremony. The swearing ceremony took place at the President House in Islamabad.
