Pakistan has declared its former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif an “absconder” for violating the bail requirements. As per reports, Mr Sharif did not provide his medical report from his doctors in London. The 70-year-old former prime minister was granted bail on humanitarian grounds by the Lahore High Court after he appealed to go abroad to receive medical treatments for four weeks.

He left the country for London on November 19 in an air ambulance.Mr. Sharif’s physician said that he has complex multi-vessel coronary artery disease and substantial ischemic and threatened myocardium and so he needs immediate treatment.

On Tuesday, the Pakistani government decided not to extend the bail of the three-time Pakistan PM. It declared him an “absconder” for violating the bail requirements and not providing medical reports.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the federal Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Imran Khan. Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Firdous Ashiq Awan said at a post-Cabinet meeting press conference, “After Nawaz Sharif failed to submit his medical report of any hospital in London, the medical board rejected a medical certificate sent by him and (the government) declared him an absconder.”

“From today, Nawaz Sharif is an absconder according to the law of land, and if he does not return to the country, he will be declared a proclaimed offender,” Awan added. She said the Punjab government had written several letters to him asking him to submit his medical report but he only sen a certificate which was not accepted by the medical board.

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) had empowered the Punjab government to take a decision Sharif’s case on medical grounds. Sharif has been serving his seven years jail terms for the Al-Azizia Steel Mills corruption case and also being connected in the Flagship case.
