On Wednesday, the Delhi court granted release to Naveen Jindal the Congress leader as well as an industrialist who got accused in two coal scam cases from personal appearance till June 30 because he is going to contest the Lok Sabha elections.
An appeal was filed by Mr. Jindal seeking on the base that he “wishes to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha election from Kurukshetra parliamentary constituency” and special judge Bharat Prasad granted the permission.
CBI’s senior public prosecutor VK Sharma and advocate Tarannum Cheema opposed the application saying that his absence may delay the trial.
The court earlier had granted bail to Naveen Jindal in two cases after imposition of several conditions.
During the first case, former Jharkhand chief minister Madhu Koda, former Union minister of state for coal Dasari Narayan Rao, former coal secretary HC Gupta along with others were accused by the CBI.
The case alleged that there were irregularities in the allocation of the Amarkonda Murgadangal coal block in Jharkhand to Jindal Steel and Power Ltd (JSPL) and Gagan Sponge Iron Private Ltd (GSIPL).
In the second case, Naveen Jindal along with others was charge-sheeted by the agency for misleading the government by presenting unreal facts to bag the Madhya Pradesh-based Urtan North coal block.
