Today, the newly-appointed Speaker of the Lower House, Om Birla claims that he will run the House in an impartial way, asserted that the chair shouldn’t be biased. While addressing the Lok Sabha after being elected unanimously as the Speaker, Mr. Birla assured that he will preside over the proceedings following the rules and regulations, “safeguard the interests of the members irrespective of the strength of their parties in the House.”

Praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for operating a transparent government, said Mr. Birla that he expects the “government to be more responsible and answerable in the House.”

He continued that everyone should be heard and the centre government will reply to them.

Asked for cooperation from all the members for a smooth and safe functioning in the Lower House, Mr. Birla continued that they should raise questions and issues that come under the notice of the central government.

“I have been a member like you from 2014 to 2019. And here, we should raise the issues which matter to the last person standing in a row,” added Om Birla.
