Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam always being an honorable man, dreamt of the nation of the 21st Century as he made an extraordinary contribution to achieving the goal, tweets Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday, paid tribute to the former President of India on his 88th birthday.
PM Modi tweets in Hindi: “My heartfelt tribute to Dr. APJ Abdul Kalamji on his anniversary. He dreamt of the India of 21st century and then went on to give his exceptional contribution to the goal. His ideal life will keep inspiring the people of the country. India salutes Dr. APJ Abdul Kalamji on his Jayanti.”
PM Modi has also shared a video in his post, where he is heard recounting the achievements of the former President, also known as “Missile Man of India”. He was heard saying in the video, “As a scientist, he took India to new heights…His long-life efforts are an asset to the country. He faced many obstacles in his life.”
PM Modi further said, “Personally, he has been a guide, a mentor to me.”
Dr. Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam was born on October 15, 1931, in Tamil Nadu’s Rameswaram. He is remembered for his extraordinary contributions towards the development of India’s Missile Projects.
Dr. Kalam has received the highest civilian award ‘Bharat Ratna’ in 1997. He is also a recipient of several other awards and fellow of many professional institutions, including Civilian Awards – Padma Bhushan (1981), and Padma Vibhushan (1990), reports official website.
Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam became the 11th President of India in 2002, but he always used to refer himself first as a teacher.
The United Nations in 2010 has decided to recognize October 15, the birthday of APJ Abdul Kalam, as “World Student Day”.
On Tuesday, several other political leaders have also wished the “Missile Man of India” on his 88th birthday.
Union Home minister Amit Shah tweets, “I offer my tributes to former President of India, Bharat Ratna Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam ji on his Jayanti. Dr. Kalam was an epitome of simplicity and knowledge who devoted his entire life to the nation. He is an inspiration to every Indian.”
Along with a picture of Dr. Kalam, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted: “Remembering India’s former President Shri APJ Abdul Kalam ji on his birth anniversary. His humble origins and life of compassion for the disadvantaged continue to inspire every Indian.”
