On Thursday, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his reply to the debate on the Motion of Thanks in the Lok Sabha targetted sharp criticism on the opposition. He said that the idea of  Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) of the opposition is a Maha Milavat (Grand Adulteration) and people are well known about the fact. Congress Chief Rahul Gandhi’s favorite slogan was also retorted by PM Modi. PM Modi twisted it with a well-known Hindi slogan that, “The thief is scolding the chowkidar (watchman).”

“In 2014, for the first time in 30 years, the people gave India its first full majority government. Now the Maha-Milawat (Grand Adulteration) is about to come,” he said in the Lok Sabha.

After the opposition expressed their protest during his speech, he said, “The public knows what happens when there is a milawat ki sarkar (adulterated government)”. Then he indicated to the treasury benches and told,  “Don’t worry, the Grand Adulteration people won’t come here.”

Claiming that the voters understand that “maha milavat” government can be harmful to the country, he stated, “The voters do not want a “Maha Milavat” government of those who assembled in Kolkata”.

“In 2014, the people of the country elected a government with a full majority and the country experiences what happens when there is a ‘milawati’ (coalition) government. Now, they are planning ‘mahamilawat’. This ‘mahamilawat’ is not going to reach here (in Delhi). Keep this limited to Kolkata,” he said referring to the rally of 23 opposition parties in West Bengal last month.

PM Modi also attacked Robert Vadra, husband of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra indirectly saying that opposition has “benami properties” on abroad. Robert Vadra is being questioned by the authorities in a money laundering case.

Hitting out at Mr. Gandhi for his allegations on the Rafale fighter jet deal, PM Modi said the Congress did not wish to see the country’s armed forces strong.

“I wondered why they speak lies on Rafale with such confidence. Then I realized because they know in all their years in power there hasn’t been a single honest defense deal. Some mama, some chacha kept coming in,” he said.

“The Army has seen the days when the officers did not even have bullet-proof jackets to conduct surgical strikes… I am not talking about weaponry here. These are basic facilities” PM added.
