Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) is believed to have generated employment opportunity for more than 6 crore people across the country, the Central Government of India told Lok Sabha on Tuesday.
According to the 2014 NCAER (National Council of Applied ) report, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said that every Rs. 1 lakh were invested in the housing sector and 2.65 new jobs were generated in the economy.
In a written reply to a question, the Housing and Urban Affairs Minister said that “On this basis, it is estimated that a total of 6.07 crore employment might have so far been generated through implementation of the PMAY (U) across the country.”
The Ministry continued that it refers to several jobs that are generated irrespective of duration.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi introduces Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) in 2015, with the aim to ensure “Housing for all by 2022” by offering financial assistance to a beneficiary.
The BJP-led Modi government has set a target to 1 crore houses to be constructed in urban areas across the nation over a period of 7-years- 2015 to 2022.
As per the official figure, till December 12, in total 65,43,970 houses have been given approval for construction under the PMAY (U) across the nation.
Out of the total number, 35,49,531 houses have already been grounded for construction, 12,26,530 houses have been completed and 12,19,549 houses have been occupied by the beneficiaries.
