A relative of a sanitation worker at the Rashtrapati Bhavan tested positive for the novel coronavirus. However, she is not an employee at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, she used to live in the complex. She was tested positive four days ago.
Recently, the sanitation worker’s daughter-in-law’s mother died of COVID-19 in her village. According to reports, all of the family members had attended the funeral. On Monday, the daughter-in-law was also tested positive after the results came out. Meanwhile, the first contacts of the family have all tested negative for the virus.
After the result came out, nearly 100 people including secretary-level officials and their families at the Rashtrapati Bhavan have been asked to be under home quarantine. All 125 houses in the complex have been put under isolation and 25 houses in the same block have been kept under strict isolation.
The inhabitants of the other houses were only allowed to go out for groceries but are also under isolation. The number of total coronavirus cases in India have crossed 18,000 taking the total number of infections 18,601. A total 47 patients have died in the last 24 hours taking the number of deaths to 590 by Tuesday. Almost 3250 people have recovered from the deadly virus so far in the country. After Maharashtra (4203 cases), Delhi has (2003 cases) the second-highest numbers in the country.
