On Wednesday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah held a meeting with the BJP corporators in East Delhi. The meeting comes just three days before the assembly elections in Delhi that is scheduled to be held on February 8. During the meeting, Mr Shah criticized the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Congress claiming they opposed several issues like the Citizenship Amendment Act, Ram Temple in Ayodhya, and Article 370 due to fear of their vote bank.
The former BJP President further asserted that the election results will be shocking for everyone and termed the Delhi poll a contest between two “ideologies.” Addressing the crowd, Mr Shah asked, “Are you their vote bank?” which said no. He again asked the gathering, “Who is their vote bank?”. “Shaheen Bagh,” they replied. Mr Shah has been overseeing the campaign for the Delhi assembly polls and held numerous meetings and roadshows. He is trying to cover every constituency in the poll-bound state.
“Delhi elections are not a contest between two parties. You have to choose between two ideologies- Rahul Baba, Kejriwal and the company which supports Shaheen Bagh or Modi who is safeguarding the country,” he said.
Amit Shah condemned Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal as “number one liar.” The Delhi government has failed to fulfil its promises of building 1,000 schools, installing 15 lakh CCTV cameras, procuring 5,000 DTC buses, providing free wi-fi and regularising temporary workers. The BJP has been out of power in the capital state since 1998.
The Union Home Minister urged the voters to head to the poll booths with their families before 10:30 am on February 8 to make Delhi and the country safe. “I know your decision. The results on February 11 will shock everyone,” he claimed. He ended his speech in his trademark appeal, “press the EVM button on February 8 with such anger that its current (poll result) shocks Shaheen Bagh”.
