India should observe October 15, former President APJ Abdul Kalam’s birthday as National Students Day, proposed a BJP leader from Telangana to the centre-ruling BJP Government.

In a written letter to Union Human Resource Development Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, former BJP’s Rajya Sabha Member Anand Bhaskar Rapolu claims that the United Nations has already declared October 15 as “World Students Day”.

Mr. Nishank further claims that several educational centre are already observing APJ Abdul Kalam’s birth anniversary in their own way.

Mr. Rapolu’s written letter reads, “I pray for your prompt expeditious initiative to declare October 15 as National Students Day and ensure to observe befittingly in all the educational institutions of all levels, so that as the Missile Man dreamt, you can utilise the day as an occasion to ignite the minds of our students.”

Mr. Kalam’s birthday should be remarked with equal zeal like the country observes other important events such as August 7 as “National Handloom Day” and June 21 as “World Yoga Day”, added Mr. Rapolu.
