On Friday, German Chancellor Angela Merkel will hold talks with the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi, their recorded fifth meeting in a year. Around twenty agreements are likely to be signed between Germany and India during her visit to the national capital.
Today, the German Chancellor has a packed scheduled. Ms. Merkel started her day with a ceremonial welcome at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi, where PM Modi has received her. She then went to Rajghat to pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi’s Memorial.
Last night, she landed in Delhi and was greeted by the Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office Jitendra Singh.
Ms. Merkel will also participate in the fifth India-Germany Inter-Governmental Consultations (IGC) in Delhi.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Raveesh Kumar tweets, “Enriching the strategic texture of our relationship. German Chancellor Angela Merkel arrived in Delhi beginning her State visit to India during which she, along with PM @narendramodi will co-chair the 5th – IGC. This would be the 5th meeting between the leaders within a year.”
She will further meet Indian President Ram Nath Kovind in the evening and will later hold talks with PM Modi at his Lok Kalyan Marg Residence.
During their meeting, Angele Merkel and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will exchange their views on global and regional matters of mutual interest. Both leaders will have separate engagement with the CEOs and business leaders of both the nations, said the Foreign Ministry in a statement.
When enquired if the issue related to Kashmir will be discussed between Ms. Merkel and PM Modi, German Envoy Walter J Lindner said that both have a “very good relationship and they can talk about any issues,” reported news source.
On Saturday, Ms. Merkel will meet the business delegation and will also visit a German-based company in Gurgaon. She will further visit a metro station in Dwarka before returning back to the national capital.
