Nishikori Retires & Djokovic Beaten in Barcelona Open Tennis - TNBCLive

On Wednesday at the Barcelona Open Tennis tournament, Martin Klizan defeated Novak Djokovic, the former world number one who entered as a late wild entry after recovering from an injury.

It was expected that the former champion Novak will face Rafael Nadal during the quarter-final match in Spain, but his disjointed display has given the victory to Klizan instead, who is world rank 140, with 6-2, 1-6, 6-3.

With the marvelous victory over Djokovic, Klizan will have a face-off with Feliciano Lopez, the clay-court specialist from Spain, in the last 16.

The French Open is fast approaching next month, hence, Novak will have to reset his game with the upcoming tournament after exiting from the Barcelona Open.

On Tuesday, David Goffin has also displayed a stunning performance by beating Marcel Granollers by 4-6, 7-6 (7-2), 6-2 in the Open tournament.

Goffin will now play against either Karen Khachanov or Leonardo Mayer in the next round, whereas, Roberto Carballes Baena has earned his match against 10-times tennis champion Rafael Nadal, by defeating Andreas Haider Maurer in the first round by 6-2, 6-4.

On Monday, Ivo Karlovic from Croatia managed to hit 29 aces to defeat Tommy Robredo from Spain in the first round by 6-7(5), 7-6(8), 6-4. The Croatian star is 39 years old (oldest player) and 211 centimeters height (tallest player) at the clay-court tennis tournament.

Ivo faced another Spanish star Roberto Bautista Agut on Tuesday in the eighth seed.

In another match, Kei Nishikori was forced to retire from the tournament when he was playing his opening match against Guillermo Garcia Lopez from Spain on Wednesday.

On Sunday, in the final match of Monte Carlo Masters, Nishikori was defeated by Rafael Nadal and thereafter retires from Barcelona Open after he concedes the first round to Lopez by 6-3.

Nishikori, world rank 22 from Japan, felt fatigue during the match and also dealing with his troublesome right wrist. He was forced to withdraw from the game and will have to regain his fitness for playing at the French Open approaching next month.
