On Wednesday, Ankita Raina the top-ranked women’s singles Indian player expressed a huge upset win over  Samantha Stosur, the former US Open champion, at the Kunping Open in China. Recently, Ankita ranked 178 in the world and this victory can be considered as the biggest victory of her career so far. In two hours and fifty munites game, Raina Raina beat the fancied Australian 7-5, 2-6, 6-5.

For the second time, the two players faced off with Stosur having won their last encounter in straight sets. In the match, Stosur managed to smash seven aaces while the 26-year-old Indian player managed only three aces. However, Stosur made more mistakes than Ankita as Ankita had six faults while the former had 18 double faults.

She will be contesting against Kai-Lin Zhang of China, who is ranked 209 in the world, in the second round. Earlier this month, Raina had finished runner up at the USD 60,000 ITF event in Istanbul. After Sania Mirza and Nirupama Vaidyanathan, she became the only third Indian woman tennis player to become in the top-200 rankings in singles.

In 2011 US Open final, Serena Williams lost to Stosur. Stosur previously had won six other grand slam titles.
