On Wednesday, India opened their ICC World Cup campaign against South Africa and the game was remarkable for India. The match was arranged at The Rose Bowl in Southampton. Yuzvendra Chahal and Rohit Sharma gave an excellent contribution to the match which helped India to win over South Africa. South Africa made 227 runs for nine wickets while India made 230 runs for four wickets.
India skipper Virat Kohli’s team started their campaign excellently by defeating South Africa by six wickets. Rohit Sharma was the star of the match as he remained unbeaten on 122 runs off 144 balls. South Africa lost for the third time since the tournament has started. Twitter fans gladly congratulated the Indian team.
On the other side, Jasprit Bumrah was nearly unplayable with the new balls as he bagged two early wickets which actually helped India to restrict South Africa to a modest 227 for nine. Yuzvendra Chahal helped Bumrah and they together took four wickets.
During the post-match interview Virat Kohli priaised Bumrah’s performance saying, “Jasprit is operating at a different level to be honest. Chahal was outstanding as well”.
“There’s one thing to see a bowler bowl but to catch that ball, to feel the heaviness of it. When I caught it, I could feel the pain for 15 minutes. With the new ball he was absolutely outstanding,” Kohli added.
However, Kohli could not do the batting against South Africa but his deputy Rohit Sharma performed extremely well scoring century. Besides praising Rohi, Kohli also praised KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya for their cameo knocks.
“Hats off to Rohit, and also the guys who batted around him. We were going to bowl first,” Kohli said.
He further claimed that “That’s where Rohit’s innings was very very special. KL batted really well with him. Then MS showed great composure. Hardik finished well too. He looks in a good head space”. On Sunday, India is going to face Australia which is going to be a crucial contest for Kohli’s team.
