Parle Products, the biscuits and confectionary maker is looking to double its turnover and cross the Rs. 20,000 mark in the coming five years. Parle, a privately held company, currently has a turnover of Rs. 10,000 plus as told to PTI by Mayank Shah, Parle Products Category Head.

The company has got into snacks, bakery items like cakes and rusks and ventured into the staples segment six months back by launching pulses. It is now bidding on its staples and snacks segments to lead its growth. Parle also plans to increase its offerings and distribution. As of now, the company’s presence in pulses can be seen in two states- Maharashtra and Karnataka in five segments – Arhar daal, Chana, Masoor, Urad and Moong daal. It is also present in premium chocolate segment.

Parle Products is now tapping both – retail as well as institutional markets as hotels, which buys in bulks through its innovative offerings.

Parle Products Category Head B Krishna Rao said, “Pulses is a big opportunity and a future for us,” adding that gradually Parle would expand its presence to a pan India level. “There is trend to buy more packed items. Moreover, people have become more sensitive towards quality and issue of adulteration, which is the biggest problem,” he said.

“We are targeting one fourth of total sales coming in next one and a half years,” said Shah who handles management, advertising and promotions for biscuits and chocolates for the company. Besides, it also expects the contribution from its Platina range of premium products to go up by 25 percent in next three years in the biscuits segment, which presently adds 65 per cent of its total fold. The Platina range handles its four premium brands – Hide & Seek Milano, Mexitos and Simply Good.
