Potholes as flower pots? Brussels protester brightens up damaged roads

To highlight the miserable state of many of the city roads a man in Brussels has started planting flowers in the potholes across the capital city of Belgium.

The man Anton Schuurmans keeps walking around the town armed with a bag full of flowers, soil and a small plastic can for watering, to plant daffodils or geraniums in each and every pothole he can find sometimes even by braving the heavy traffic in order to reach spots even at the middle of busy crossings.

The passer by people stopped and even took photos on their phone as they walked beside the flowers and many of them agreeing to the fact that the potholes are really a problem for the city.

Seven years ago Anton Schuurmans shifted from the Netherlands to Belgium and he now says that his floral way of protest did meet with some success in convincing the council to act on the problems of potholes and showed that across the street a part of the road has been freshly repaired.
