Marking International Women’s Day, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on March 8 takes pride in her TMC for having 35 percent female MPs and 50 percent seats reservation for women in local bodies in the state.

Highlighting Bengal government’s scheme, which empowers women, CM Banerjee said that “Our government is committed to the welfare and empowerment of women. Recently we launched the Swasthya Sathi health insurance smart cards.”

“We have decided to issue these cards to a woman member of the family, recognizing her as the head of the family,” added the Bengal Chief Minister.

International Women’s Day is celebrated every year on March 8.
