On Wednesday, Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee offered prayer in front of Gandhi Ji’s statue in the Parliament to save the country’s democracy and remove Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA government from power at the Centre.
CM Banerjee on the last day of 16th Lok Sabha said that “Every political party has its own ideology. We believe in patriotism. I have come to Parliament to pray in front of Mahatma Gandhi statue. We prayed to remove BJP and Narendra Modi and save the country and its unity.”
She has been very vocal against the BJP government at the Centre. The Bengal Chief Minister along with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and several other regional leaders tried to form a grand alliance to fight against BJP in the forthcoming 2019 Lok Sabha Elections.
A few days ago, a full-blown face-off between TMC government in Bengal and Centre erupted after a CBI team tried to detain Kolkata Police Commission Rajeev Kumar for having alleged connection in Saradha chit fund scam. However, the CBI officials have unceremoniously opposed entry to the residence of the cop and arrested.
Escalating CM Banerjee’s confrontation with the Centre, she started a sit-in on the night of February 3 to show protest, in what her party called a “coup” by the Prime Minister-led BJP government. However, on February 5, she has ended her fast.
