On Monday, Biswajit Chatterjee, the legendary actor joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in New Delhi. BJP General Secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya and other senior leaders were present at the event. Shanku Deb Panda, former Trinamool Congress General Secretary also switched to BJP.
It is likely to say that the 83-year-old Biswajeet Chatterjee will be contesting the upcoming Lok Sabha elections from West Bengal. BJP is looking for some famous faces for West Bengal. After Mousumi Chatterjee had joined BJP last month, he is the second actor to join the party.
Previously, the famous actor has contested the 2014 general elections from New Delhi as a TMC candidate against Congress’ Ajay Maken and BJP spokesperson Meenakshi Lekhi but did not get success, he received only 909 votes.
Biswajit Chatterjee is a very well-known face in Bengali cinema. He is known as romantic “hero” in Bollywood also and acted various films like “Kismat” (1968), “Bees Saal Baad” (1962), and “Night in London” (1967).

While talking to the media persons over his join to BJP he said, “I want to work for the country. I had focussed on one person. I have seen what he has achieved. In my eyes, Narendra Modi outshines all other leaders.”
While being asked about his defeat in 2014 as a Trinamool Congress he replied, “Nobody knew that party (in Delhi). I went from alley to alley in Delhi to tell people that there is a party called the Trinamool Congress. I had contested the seat knowing very well I will lose. I have no regrets for that.”
He condemned Ms. Banerjee’s comments earlier in the day seeking an investigation into the Pulwama attack, he said, “I heard somebody seeking an investigation into the incident. I have left the company of those who work as agents of Pakistan.”
“And, despite living in India, if you say things that insult the sacrifice of the soldiers, then the youth will hit the streets against you. I want to ask you why you are not starting a dharna against the Pulwama attack,” he mocked at CM Banerjee.
