The accused suicide of a retired senior Police Officer in Kolkata, Gaurav Dutt has become the object for political attack by BJP leader Mukul Roy, on Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Mr. Roy demanded the arrest of the state Chief Minister for abetment to suicide and also urged for CBI investigation into the case.
Mr. Roy said, “This is for the first time in the history of West Bengal that a senior IPS officer committed suicide and blamed the government or a party leader.”
Mr. Dutt’s suicide note went viral on social media, the Police Officer blames CM Banerjee of abetting his suicide by keeping him on ‘compulsory waiting’ and withholding his dues after retirement on December 31, 2018.
How Mr. Dutt’s suicide note went viral is still not clear. Gaurav Dutt was a 1986 batch IPS Officer.
On Tuesday, Mrs. Dutt returned home and found her husband in a pool of blood at his home in Salt Lake. The retired Police Officers’ wrists were slit, was immediately lifted to hospital but was declared dead.
West Bengal government is tight-lipped about the incident of his suicide. Sources claim that none of the dues written in the ‘suicide note’ were pending and Gaurav Dutt was on ‘compulsory waiting’ as disciplinary proceedings initiated him.
He was also suspended for nine months from February 2010 for “conduct unbecoming of an officer.” As per the reports, Mr. Dutt was suspended after a constable’s wife complained against him of torturing her husband as he has refused the officer’s sexual advances.
In 2012, Mr. Dutt had again faced disciplinary action for accused financial irregularities.
BJP leader Mukul Roy has urged the association of IPS to take up Mr. Dutt’s cause.
Three weeks ago, CM Banerjee had protested against motiveless action taken by CBI on the then Kolkata Police Commissioner, had also appealed to IPS Association and said that it would speak up in favor of Rajeev Kumar. Virtually CBI had stormed his official residence on February 3, to interrogate him in having a connection with Saradha chit fund scam.
