Today, in one of the busiest parts of Kolkata a bridge collapses, which left many cars and people trapped underneath. A part of the Majerhat Bridge collapses in the afternoon. While the number of lives lost and damage is yet to get evaluated. Bengal’s Chief Minister has ordered for a detail investigation on it.
A Parliamentarian of Trinamool Congress, Derek O’Brien tweeted that incident was ‘devastating’ and ‘default to gauge the enormity of the tragedy.’
Mr. O’Brien further posted in twitter that “Watching scenes of Majerhat bridge#Kolkata collapse. Devastating, Rescue teams, disaster management teams, Police CP, firefighters already reach the spot. Locals join. Rescue operations on. Prayers for those affected difficult to gauge the enormity of tragedy as yet looking at visuals.”
In another post, he said that “Cranes already put into action. Firefighters using ladders already being used. Disaster management teams at work.”
Within two years, this Majerhat bridge collapse is second such incident gets reported. On 31st March 2016, under-constructed Vivekananda flyover of 150m steel collapsed. It took away over 20 lives and left more than 80 people badly injured.
