Today, University of Calcutta has invited applications for “an outstanding scholar of national and international repute” to get appointed for the post of Mahatma Gandhi Chair. The post was formed by the state government’s Department of Higher Education, Technology, Science and Biotechnology to remember the 150th birth anniversary of the ‘Father of the Nation’, Mahatma Gandhi.
The application notice mentioned that “An outstanding scholar of national and international repute, who has a proven track record from the areas of Political Science/History/ Philosophy and such other disciplines of Social Sciences as may be required to fulfill the mandate of the Chair.”
The aim of creating the post is “to enable eminent scholars on Gandhi to teach and conduct research on Mahatma Gandhi” reads the notification.
The period of the post is “initially for one year but can be extended for another two years.”
December 31 is the last date of receiving an application for the post.
The post was announced by the Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Gandhi ji’s birthday on 2nd October 2018.
