On Tuesday, the Calcutta High Court has has extended the protection from arrest to former CID Additional Director General Rajeev Kumar in having connection with the Saradha chit-fund scam. 

Justice Madhumati Mitra has extended Mr. Kumar’s interim protection till August 28, after a CBI counsel has been submitted before her that his senior was out of town in link with another case.

The junior counsel for CBI has urged for an adjournment of hearing of Mr. Kumar’s petition seeking repeal of a notice served on him by the probe agency to appear for interrogation in link with Rs. 2500 crore scam. 

The Calcutta High Court has said that the matter would be heard again on August 27. 

Rajeev Kumar is a former Commissioner of Bidhannagar Police and Kolkata Police, was appointed CID, ADG, by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee-led TMC Government before the recently-concluded Lok Sabha Elections. 

However, Mr. Kumar was removed by the Election Commission of India during the election process and was linked to the Union Home Ministry in New Delhi.

West Bengal Government has replaced him followed by the withdrawal of the model code of conduct.
