In Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh district two children died and 52 fell sick after drinking contaminated water from a hand pump at their school, said the officials. The incident happened on Tuesday afternoon in Aligarh’s Salgawan village.

Aligarh’s Chief Medical Officer ML Agarwal said today that two children died while 52 others were fallen ill after drinking contaminated water from a hand pump. After drinking the water, the children complained that they were having vomiting and sickness.

All were immediately taken to the primary health center in the village, he said. A team of Health Department officials including doctors has been rushed to the village. It has been informed that the medical team will stay in the village until a preliminary inquiry into the matter is completed.

The medical team will also find out the exact cause of the incident and whether it could be linked to the leakage of contaminated water into the hand pump after heavy rains, the officer said. The affected children were being treated at the primary health center and now they are out of danger, said Mr. Agarwal.
