On Friday, ex-Samajwadi Party MP from Mirzapur, Bal Kunwar Patel joins Congress, in the presence of Congress National Chief Rahul Gandhi and party’s General Secretary of Uttar Pradesh (Eastern) Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.

Congress Uttar Pradesh (Western) in-charge Jyotiraditya Scindia and party’s UP Chief Raj Babbar were also present at the event.

Mr. Patel was a prominent face for the Samajwadi Party from the Kurmi Community. This time he will contest election from Banda Lok Sabha seat in the April-May Elections.

In 2009, Bal Kunwar Patel was elected as an MP from Mirzapur Lok Sabha seat on an SP ticket. In 2014, the party has altered his constituency to Banda from Mirzapur, where he was defeated by a narrow margin.

In Uttar Pradesh, there are in total 80 Lok Sabha seats, elections for which will take place across all seven phases starting from April 11 and the results will be declared on May 23.
