On Thursday, Union Minister and BJP Candidate Smriti Irani’s “Man Friday”, Ravi Ditt Mishra joined Congress. Whenever visiting Amethi, Ms. Irani used to stay at his house.
It is said that Mr. Mishar has brought Ms. Irani to Amethi. “Smriti Irani used to stay at Mishra’s house whenever she visited Amethi,” claims a Congress leader. Earlier, Mr. Mishra was a minister in the state government of the Samajwadi Party.
He planned to join Congress at a time when Congress Chief Rahul Gandhi and party’s General Secretary and in-charge of Uttar Pradesh (East) Priyanka Gandhi Vadra are on their tour to Amethi.
In 2019 General Elections, Mr. Gandhi is contesting from 2-seats- Uttar Pradesh’s Amethi, and Kerala’s Wayanad.
Amethi is always considered to be the stronghold of Congress. The Congress National Chief had retained Amethi Constituency in 2014 General Elections, defeating BJP contestant Smriti Irani, whom the ruling party has repeated this time.
