A man has been detained after he reportedly shot dead a woman for rejecting his advances in Meerut. The victim’s sister was also injured critically as the convict, identified as Deepak, accused of opening fire inside her house.

The victim’s family was disappointed with the convict’s repeated advances, reports Meerut Police. When Deepak, who used to live her next door, came to known about her marriage was fixed, he protested inside her house and set fire, reports source. The incident was reported in Meerut’s Ganga Nagar neighborhood.

While the victim woman died on the spot, two of her family members were badly injured in the attack, the condition of her sister is still critical. SSP Nitin Tiwari visited the victim’s sister in the hospital, in which she is taking medical aid.

On Monday, Mr. Tiwari told reporters that “the accused entered the woman’s house, shot at her and her sister. One of them died, the other is in ICU. The woman’s marriage was fixed for April 18.”

“The accused is a constable’s son,” he added.

The victim’s body has been sent for postmortem and investigation underway.
