The Ganga Canal will remain closed till 6th November, for the purpose of clearing silt and routine maintenance will affect the water supply in Uttar Pradesh’s 19 districts, today reports an official.

The supply to Sonia Vihar treatment plant in Delhi will continue uninterrupted, said Hari Sharma, spokesman of UP irrigation department.

The affected district due to the closure of Ganga Canal includes Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Aligarh, Ghaziabad, Hathras, Etah, Bulandshahr and Firozabad, said, Mr. Sharma.

Farmers are also suggested to use the private source, which includes pumping sets and tube wells to irrigate their fields, added Mr. Sharma.
