On Tuesday, Uttar Pradesh powerhouse Mayawati celebrated her 63rd birthday in the state capital Lucknow, one of her visitors is her former rival Akhilesh Yadav, who has stitched up an unusual alliance with the BSP Chief for the upcoming 2019 National Election due by May, after years of acrimony between their parties. On Saturday, SP and BSP have announced for their alliance by both the party Chief at a five-star hotel in Lucknow.

Earlier there were reports that the grand “gathbandhan” announcement would headline her birthday celebration, but that did not happen, so this year too, it will be a low-key celebration.

An invitation was sent out by BSP on behalf of the Mayawati lists the usual celebration at 12 Mall Avenue, BSP’s office lies on the same road from the place.

BSP sources said that the celebrations are likely to be austere by her standards. Like every year, the BSP Chief will release what her party officials call the “Blue Book”. She acknowledged it “A Travelogue of My Struggle-ridden Life and the BSP Movement.” This will be the 14th volume of the book that is priced at Rs. 2,500 and is sold in one bookshop.

As a part of mandatory birthday ritual, Mayawati will also address a press conference.

The party leaders and supporter recall her legendary birthday celebration many years ago, with grand celebrations in a movie-set-style stage, cash and tonnes of laddoos gifts. The BSP Chief laden with diamonds, cuts a giant cake, usually in her favorite pink attire, but it’s not happening for a few years now. The BSP workers in the UP do cut cakes in her honor.
