On Sunday, All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) Chief late J Jayalalithaa’s 71st birthday anniversary was celebrated by the ruling party across Tamil Nadu. Gold rings were distributed as welfare aid to newborns and medical camps were held.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Amit Shah showed their respect and gratitude towards the great leader for her services to the people.
The celebrations were led by Chief Minister K Palaniswami and Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam on Sunday. By cutting a 71-kg cake her birthday was grandly celebrated at the AIADMK headquarters.
The achievements of the AIADMK and the state government was reached out to the people by a propaganda van by the party.
On Jayalalithaa’s Birthday Anniversary, a CD of the party’s propaganda songs, titled “Ammavin Arasu” (Jayalalithaa’s government) was released.
A party office executive said, “The premises were decorated with photos of Amma with great leaders, including Anna (Dravidian icon), Thanthai Periyar (reformist leader), former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and Mother Teresa.”
At the headquarters premises for the event, an ‘Annadhanam,’ (community feast) event was also arranged by the party.
The occasion of Jayalalithaa’s Birth Anniversary also aimed to plant 71 lakh saplings statewide.
PM Narendra Modi tweeted, “Tributes to Jayalalithaa Ji on her birth anniversary. Her contribution towards the development of Tamil Nadu will be remembered for generations.”
On Sunday, at a government hospital, all the newborn babies were given gold rings by senior AIADMK leader and Fisheries Minister D Jayakumar.
A medical camp was held at the AIADMK headquarters for a heart checkup.
Jayalalithaa passed away on December 5, 2016, in Chennai after a prolonged illness.
