On Tuesday, an army officer was shot dead by a rifleman at Pallavaram Barrack, who later committed suicide for reportedly being punished for showing “lethargic attitude in duty”.

A senior police official has reported that the deadly incident took place at 3:00 AM.

The accused committed suicide by shooting himself on the body, said sources.

A police official was quoted saying, “We suspect that the rifleman was emotionally worked up after the Havildar punished him for his lethargic attitude in duty.”

Defence sources claims that the matter was under investigation and further details are awaited.
