In an interaction with college students in Chennai, Congress Chief Rahul Gandhi has referred to the investigation taking place against his brother-in-law Robert Vadra and said that “the government should not be selective”. He further urges to investigate Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the Rafale fighter jets deal.
Today, Rahul Gandhi has addressed a gathering of hundreds of college students at Stella Maris College in Chennai, which is also a significant part of his election campaign.
He has also raised his allegation of corruption in the Rafale fighter jets to deal for purchasing of 36 Rafale fighter jets from France, signed in 2016 by PM Modi. the opposition reported that the central government has agreed to an overpriced deal for the fighter jets from Dassault Aviation to facilitate an offset contract for business tycoon Anil Ambani’s inexperienced defence company.
However, the government, Anil Ambani, and Dassault Aviation have strongly rejected the allegations.
“Mr. Narendra Modi, for one minute has not opened his mouth on the Rafale deal,” added Mr. Gandhi.
He continued, “The PM is named in the files. The CBI director is removed at 1:30 at night. The French President has spoken about this. PM Modi has given Rs. 30,000 crore to Anil Ambani,” repeated charges, which he often raised during public speeches.
50-year-old Robert Vadra is the husband of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, younger sister of Rahul Gandhi. Mrs. Vadra has recently joined politics and is the Congress General Secretary in-charge of the campaign in Uttar Pradesh (East). Mr. Vadra is being invested in a money laundering case and has been through many obstacles. Investigators claim that Mr. Vadra is directly or indirectly owns London-based nine properties amounted 12 million pounds, purchased between 2005 and 2010 when UPA government was in power.
Referring to allegations of shadowy land deals in Rajasthan and Haryana when the Congress was in power, Mr. Vadra has always been a prime target of BJP of corruption charges against the opposition.
