An Odisha girl studying at a private engineering college in Rourkela was gang-raped by five men in Chakradharpur district of Jharkhand, reports police on Tuesday.

The victim alleged that she left her hostel room on December 31 to go home in Odisha Jharsuguda, when a man befriended her at the Railway Station in Rourkela, claims that he was a friend of her brother.

The accused reportedly took her to Chakradharpur on the context that there was a direct bus service from there to Jharsuguda, her resident.

However, the convict took her to Jharkhand’s Sonua instead of Jharsuguda. The convict along with four others has gang-raped the victim brutally, reports a policeman.

The engineering student was abandoned at Lotapara near Sonua where she was rescued by some local men.

After the victim returned to Rourkela, she has lodged a complaint with the Government Railway Police.

Police department reports that they are investigating the issue and a team of police personnel has left for Jharkhand as a part of the investigation.
