On Friday, Shiv Sena claims that the face of Vidarbha had changed due to several development works by the government and there was no need for the region to offer statehood.
In an editorial mouthpiece “Saamana”, the Sena claims that Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, who is a Lok Sabha lawmaker from Nagpur in Vidarbha, had even said at an event that it was not right to demand a separate statehood when development in Vidarbha had already started.
The Sena editorial further said that Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who is an MLA from Nagpur, had paid special attention to industries, roads, and education in the region.
“Fadnavis appointed several able officers for the development of Vidarbha and provisions have been made in the budget for special schemes to be implemented there,” it added.
The Sena claims that people of Vidarbha always thought an injustice was always being allocated to them and that no government, before the existing Sena-BJp dispensation, did anything for their development.
Vidarbha was used always as a political tool by leaders and demand of a separate statehood was alive despite having no ground support, claims Saamana.
As evidence of ‘exceptional’ statehood issue has no one support, the Shiv Sena claims it secured 4-seats in Lok Sabha Elections in the region despite being opposed traditionally to the idea of Vidarbha as a separate state from Maharashtra.
The Sena further said that the Union Minister in the last 4-years had offered Rs. 80000 crore to Vidarbha and now there has an international airport, IIM, an international-level railway station, IIIT and various other initiatives to bring development and attract tourists in the region.
“Seeing the development and changing the face of Vidarbha, there is no need to demand a separate state. Gadkari should be congratulated publicly for speaking about a united Maharashtra,” added the Shiv Sena.
On March 6, Mr. Gadkari had expressed anger after some protesters’ shouting slogans at a public meet in Nagpur in support of separate statehood to Vidarbha. He reportedly threatened them to “throw off” from the event, if they did not stop. The meeting was also attended by CM Fadnavis.
