On Sunday, two drug peddlers were detained and mephedrone worth Rs. 40 lakh was seized from them in suburban Andheri, said a police officer.

Acting on a tip-off, the Amboli Police force has laid a trap on Sunday and arrested the two suspects when they arrived on a motorcycle in Veera Desai, he added.

During their cordon and search operation, the police department has recovered 1 kg of mephedrone from the accused, informed Police official Daya Nayak. Mephedrone is a type of synthetic stimulant that is also known as “meow-meow” and “MD”.

The value of the seized drug was evaluated to be about Rs. 40 lakh, added Mr. Nayak.   

The two suspects were identified as 32-years-old Imran Abdul Khalid Ansari and 38-years-old Afzal Hussain Mumtazali Ansari, were then and there interrogated and subsequently arrested, said Mr. Nayak.

He continued that Imran Ansari’s arrest was significant as he believed to have connected with biggest drug dealers in the western suburbs.

The police have also seized some amount of cash, an electronic weighing scale, a few plastic bags, and mobile phones from the convicts said the official.

The case against the two convicts has been lodged under relevant provisions of the NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act, added Mr. Nayak.
