Jailed ‘godman’ Gurmeet Ram Rahim and three others have been accused in the murder of a journalist by a special court in Haryana.
The Chief of the Dera Sacha Sauda Sect, Ram Rahim was found guilty in 2002 murder of journalist Ram Chander Chhatrapati.
HPS Verma, who is a lawyer for the CBI told the source that “All the four accused have been convicted,” after the judge Jagdeep Singh gave the verdict in Panchkula.
51-years-old Ram Rahim appeared before the court through a video conference from Rohtak’s Sunaria jail.
Ram Rahim is currently serving a 20-year prison term, alleged of raping two of his followers. Mr. Rahim’s conviction in August 2017 had triggered riots in Panchkula, as his followers went berserk, which left 30 dead and property worth crores vandalized.
In October 2002, Ram Chander Chhatrapati was shot dead outside his house after his newspaper “Poora Sach” published an anonymous letter natting that how women were being sexually assaulted by Ram Rahim at the Dera headquarters in Sisa.
The case was filed in 2003 and handed over to CBI in 2006.
Ram Rahim was named as the main convict in the sexual misconduct. The three other convicts are Nirmal Singh, Kuldeep Singh, and Krishan Lal.
