In Karnataka, 16 people have died after a boat on which they were on-board capsized off the Karwar coast. There were over 26 people on the boat when the sudden accident took place. The local fisherman and coast guard have found six bodies till now. Other people on-board have been reported missing.

In a statement, the Navy said that “16 bodies have been recovered by the Navy and Coast Guard personnel. We are locating others by air and surface assets. Dornier aircraft also being launched from Goa as bodies drifted seawards.”

The People on the board had gone to a temple, which is located at a remote island in Karwar district. While they were on their way back home, their boat got capsized and the accident took place.

Rupali Nayak, a lawmaker from the district was on the other boat, has eye-witnessed the accident. Ms. Nayak claims that she and her team immediately rushed to help the people and instantly pulled two out of the water.

The Navy personnel were later called to conduct the rescue operation, which is underway.
