Today, UGC (University Grants Commission) has asked higher educational institutions and varsities across the nation to consider September 29 as “Surgical strike day”.
Sessions by former servicemen about their great sacrifices by India’s security forces, special parades, sending greeting cards and visiting exhibitions to request their support for armed forces, are within the activities prescribed by the commission aimed at the purpose of celebrations.
Today, UGS said to all Vice-Chancellors that “The NCC units of all universities should organize a special parade on September 29 after which the NCC commander shall address them on the modalities of protection of the borders. The varsities may organize talk-session calling ex-servicemen to sensitize students about sacrifices made by the armed forces.”
The letter reads, “a multimedia exhibition will be organized around India Gate on September 29. Similar exhibitions may be organized in states, union territories, important towns and cantonments across the country. The institutions should encourage students and faculty members to visit these exhibitions.”
The commission recommended that students shall request their support for country’s security forces by writing cards and letter to them that can be both in physical or digital format.
UGC said that “The letters and cards should be shared with PRO Defence and PIB for publicity across various media.”
September 29, 2016, is the first such action taken by the country as “surgical strike day” over seven terror launch pads across the Line of Control with the Indian army saying that it inflicts “significant casualties” on terrorism to subvert from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
