Union Minister urges restaurants to stop selling Chinese food - TNBCLive

Junior Minister for Social Justice Ramdas Athawale has asked the Indians to stop eating Chinese food as a protest against China. His comment comes after clashes erupted in Ladakh between Indian and Chinese troops. The Union Minister suggested it as an action that Indians can take to hurt China.

He further suggested boycotting Made-in-China products.

“My suggestion is that restaurants and hotels that sell Chinese food should be shut down. I also request those who eat Chinese food to stop eating them, boycott them,” Mr Athawale told news agency ANI.

On Monday night, Indian and Chinese soldiers clashed with each other in eastern Ladakh’s Galwan valley. Conversations are going in between both the countries to defuse the tension.

“In such a time when our 20 soldiers were killed by the Chinese and they disrespected us, my request is that everyone should stop eating Chinese food. All the states must give an order to ban Chinese restaurant and hotels,” the Union Minister told ANI.

“They should stop doing these activities (on the border). They have no right to come on our border, ‘humare aangan me unka kya kaam hai (what is their job in our area)? If we are not attempting to control your area, why are you doing so?” he added.

Some people supported him while some considered it as an impractical suggestion pointing out that the so-called Chinese food mostly consumed in India is only in name and those who sell them are people who have a job to lose if their businesses close down. Today morning the government decided to rule out  the use of Chinese equipment in the upgradation of 4G equipment of the state-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd or BSNL in view of security issues.
