Taj Mahal entry free hiked from Rs. 50 to Rs. 200 over monument protection - TNBCLive

Those excited to see the main mausoleum at Taj Mahal, the one among the seven wonders’ of the world, will need to buy an extra ticket of Rs. 200 from today.

India’s Archeological Survey Chief Vasant Swarnakar said that the domestic visitors from today will have to pay total Rs. 250 and foreign visitors Rs. 1300 to see the main mausoleum at the Taj Mahal, which a great work at 17th Century. And the SAARC countries visitors of the Taj Mahal will have to pay Rs. 740 instead of Rs. 540 (the last changed amount).

The aim of the new ticket system is to reduce the population and protect the monument.

Therefore, visitors with Rs. 50 tickets are permitted to enter the main mausoleum but can move around the Taj and enjoy its rear side and the River Yamuna front at the back.

The Taj Mahal is recorded as one of the finest specimens of the 17th-century Mughal architecture.

In 1983, the Taj Mahal became a UNESCO World Heritage Site and was termed as “the jewel of Muslim art in India and one of the universally admired masterpieces of the world’s heritage.”
