Close on the heels of the government of Uttar Pradesh’s decision to rechristen Faizabad, and Allahabad, Shiv Sena’s lawmaker Sanjay Raut today required to know when the government of Maharashtra will rename the states of Osmanabad and Aurangabad cities.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had last month renamed Allahabad as “Prayagraj”, and announced that Faizabad district will hereafter be known as Ayodhya.
In a Tweeter post, Mr. Raut said that “Yogi Adityanath renamed Faizabad as Ayodhya, Allahabad as Prayagraj. When will (Maharashtra) Chief Minister Devendraji (Fadnavis) rechristen Aurangabad to Sambhaji Nagar and Osmanabad to Dharashiv”.
A spokesman of Shiv Sena said that Manisha Kayande said that their demand to rename Osmanabad and Aurangabad is not anything new.
She continued that “this has been our long-standing demand and was raised several times, but the Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) opposed it (when the parties were in power) to appease Muslim voters.”
Gujarat Government had recently said that it has a keen interest on renaming Ahmedabad as Karnavati if there does not come in legal hurdles.
Ayodhya is famous for Lord Ram and the celebration of Diwali because of the legend of his return home from exile ‘vanvas’.
Earlier this year, the UP’s Mughalsarai Railway Station was also renamed as Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Junction.
