On Sunday, the government of Puducherry has decided to strictly ban the production, sale, and use of single-use plastic products from March 1 in the Union Territory, said Chief Minister V Narayanasamy.

After a cabinet meeting, CM Narayanasamy told the source that “we want to gift a plastic-free Puducherry to the future generation and curb the plastic in the larger interest of the environment.”

In last year June, neighboring Tamil Nadu government has already announced that it would strictly ban the use of plastic items including non-biodegradable carry bags from January 1, 2019, and would “gift a plastic-free state to future generations.”

On December 31, a nominated BJP legislator had staged a “dharna”, directed for an immediate ban on the production, sale, and use of plastic products in the Union Territory on the lines of Tamil Nadu.
