A pregnant woman was strangled to death on a train over objecting to a co-passenger, who was smoking in-train, reports a senior GRP officer.

Last night, 45-years Chinat Devi was travelling with her family in general bogey of Jallianwala Express from Punjab to Bihar, when she objected a co-passenger smoking. The accused was recognized as Sonu Yadav, reports AK Pandey, Police Station in-charge of GRP.

After several heated arguments, Mr. Yadav attacks and strangled the pregnant woman, said Mr. Pandey adding that the train was stopped at Shahjahanpur and the injured woman was immediately lifted to a nearby hospital, where the hospital doctor declared her brought dead.

The victim and her family were on their way to Bihar from Punjab for taking part in festivals of Chhat Puja, said Mr. Pandey.

The convict was arrested and the dead body of the pregnant woman was sent for post-mortem, said Mr. Pandey.
