Upset with family pressure, a lesbian couple from Kendrapara has threatened to commit suicide if anyone attempts to separate them from one another. The two have reportedly been living together and in a committed relationship for the last five months.

The lesbian couple, in their late 20s, had filed an affidavit before a local court in Odisha’s Kendrapara seeks permission to marry.

On January 12, the lesbian couple left Kendrapara to live in the Odisha’s capital Bhubaneswar.

The father of one of the women has lodged a complaint with the police, accused that other woman has kidnapped and forced his daughter to forcefully get married.

On the basis of the lodged complaint, a case under IPC Sections 365 and 295 has been registered.

A police officer Ranjan Kumar Dey said that “both the women have been rescued from Bhubaneswar and their statements have been recorded.”

Mr. Dey continued, “During the interrogation, both expressed their willingness to live together and threatened to commit suicide if any attempts were made to separate them.”
