On Thursday, Jolly Joseph, the main accused in Kerala’s sensational serial murder case, has attempted suicide in jail. She was kept in a district jail in Kozhikode. She attempted suicide by cutting her wrist using a “semi-sharp edged weapon.” She has been admitted to Government Medical College Hospital in Kozhikode, said a police official.
Jolly had been under judicial remand since her arrest in October 2019. The official further informed that surgery would have to be performed to fix the injury. Police said the jail officials noticed blood coming out of her wrist in the early hours of today, and she was immediately taken to the hospital.
The 47-year-old accused was detained along with two others in October last year for murdering her husband, parents-in-law, and three members of the family by giving them cyanide-laced food over 17 years. An investigation has been launched into the incident by the police. Officials are also investigating how the accused got the weapon inside the jail.
