Today, a 25-year-old man was given three life-sentences who brutally raped and murdered his seven-year-old niece on September 27, 2017. He was also given 26 years of rigorous imprisonment.
He was also asked to pay a fine of Rs. 3.20 lakh to the family of the victim. The convict will have to undergo the sentences differently. Kollam additional sessions judge E Baiju gave the judgment who is in charge of the POCSO (protection of children from sexual offenses) court.
On Tuesday, the court stated that Rajesh has been convicted for various offenses — murder, rape, unnatural sex, kidnapping and showing disrespect to a dead body. The case alleged that he raped his niece after strangling her after taking to a rubber plantation at Kulathupuzha, where he had abandoned the body.
The accused used to live with the victim and her family. On the day of the incident, the girl was going to tuition center along with her grandmother. The convict assured them that he would drop her. He took the girl to the rubber plantations situated about 16 km away, in an autorickshaw and raped her.
The mother of the child registered a missing complaint and the police started an investigation in search of the convict. Rajesh was subsequently arrested from a forest at Kulathupuzha, where he was hiding.
