Kerala girl Hadiya’s father joins BJP in Thiruvananthapuram - TNBCLive

Father of the Kerala girl, Hadiya, who has changed her religion to get married to a Muslim man, has joined BJP in Thiruvananthapuram. Hadiya’s father KM Ashokan has joined the Bharatiya Janata Party last week through online membership, reports source. Kerala BJP Chief G Gopalakrishnan has delivered Mr. Ashok his party membership card along with fifty others at a protection camp in Sabarimala.

Mr. Ashok told the source that earlier he was a supporter of CPI(M) but as the party now plays “dirty politics” over the Sabarimala temple issue, he opts to join the center-ruling BJP.

Hadiya got married to a Muslim man has grabbed the headlines after her father appealed to the court, claims his daughter was a victim of “love jihad”. She was born in a Hindu family as Akhila Ashokan but with changing religion changes her name to ‘Hadiya’ as she got married in 2016 with Shafin Jahan.

Kerala High Court has invalidated her marriage with a Muslim man in May 2017, after the reports of NIA (National Investigation Agency) claims that she was a victim of “indoctrination and psychological kidnapping.” She was even sent back to her parent’s custody from her in-law’s place.

In March 2018, Mr. Jahan appeal to Supreme Court and their marriage was restored after judges spoke to Hadiya. Permits NIA to continue its investigation into other accused “love jihad” cases, the Supreme Court said that “We are not concerned with the NIA probe. You can prove anything, but not marital status.”

Hridya in the top court is treated as an adult and added that “she told us in court she is married… we can’t question the legitimacy of her marriage.”

She was set free from her parent’s custody and has spent to complete her education in Salem’s Homeopathy Medical College in November.
